Grads
Graduation from High School is an important milestone in the life of our young people and their families. At Samuel Hearne Secondary, students are invited to participate in the Graduation ceremonies at the end of the school year, if one of the two conditions apply:
1. They are on track to meet NWT High School Diploma requirements by the end of the current school year. This means that they must be scheduled in the required courses, have good attendance and maintain passing grades in all courses. A final decision on which of our students will be invited to participate (also known as "to walk" ) on Grad Day will be made 30 days prior to the scheduled graduation ceremony. Check out the NWT Diploma requirements here.
2. Students who are on track to meet the goals of their Individual Education Plan, as determined by the student support team, will be invited to participate in the graduation ceremony with their peers.
It is important to note: Participation in the Graduation ceremonies does not mean that you have Graduated YET! Students must still complete all of their courses and write their final exams.
Senior High students, if writing NWT/Alberta Diploma exams, may have to wait until late July to find out all final exam results. Diplomas for successful graduates are mailed out to students in mid Autumn by the Department of Education, Culture and Employment in Yellowknife. Requests for official transcripts must also made to the Department of ECE.
